Sound Pod is an object inviting users to reconsider the act of listening and become more aware of the presence of sound. The project began with an interest in how sound is perceived, through both sensation and perception. When someone approaches the object, it detects their presence and starts making sound. These sounds subtly resonate within the hollow body, making the entire object vibrate. Instead of producing a melody, the sound consists of mechanical noise from motors and gears, combined with raw, metallic tones created by striking metal plates. The resulting dissonance draws attention to the sound itself. Their unpredictability keeps the listener from settling into familiarity or expectation.
