Marit Janse's work explores the duality (or connections) between street art and the "white cube" gallery space. In her work she likes to play with contrast and context. What inspires her is traces of people in public space, specifically the traces on walls of cities. These traces create a lot of layers and there is some kind of history and identity behind those walls that are filled with tags and posters. The walls of cities are like an accidental collaboration; they change over time and they create a dialogue. People add on to it or they take things away, the walls are interactive, people leave their mark.
